What Microneedling Actually Does to the Skin
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, works by creating thousands of tiny, controlled channels in the skin with a set of fine needles. Those channels are small enough to heal quickly but significant enough to switch on the body’s repair response. As the skin rebuilds, it lays down fresh collagen and elastin, the structural proteins that keep skin firm and smooth. One Focused Day, Centered on the SkinPen™
ILM trains exclusively on the SkinPen™, developed by Crown Aesthetics and the first microneedling device to earn FDA clearance. The equipment you learn on matters more than people expect. Depth control, sterile single-use cartridges, glide technique, and built-in safety features all behave differently from the inexpensive pens sold online, and you’ll leave knowing the tool you’re most likely to reach for in an actual practice.
The morning grounds you in the fundamentals: skin anatomy and the wound-healing cascade, how to read a client’s skin and history, indications and contraindications, infection control, and how to set honest expectations about results and timelines. The afternoon is where it all comes together. You’ll carry out a complete treatment on a live model from start to finish. Beginning with the consultation and skin assessment, then numbing, device setup, technique across the different zones of the face, and aftercare. Who Should Enroll
Microneedling falls within the scope of a fairly wide group of licensed professionals. The course is a good fit for estheticians, cosmetologists, LPNs, RNs, BSNs, NPs, PAs, MDs, or DOs who want to add the treatment to their menu or sharpen the technique they already have. No prior microneedling experience is needed. The day is structured to take a newcomer all the way to performing a treatment, while still giving experienced providers room to refine their approach.
One thing worth checking before you sign up: the rules on who may perform microneedling, and whether medical supervision is required, vary quite a bit from state to state.
