The Institute for Laser Medicine teaches its Comprehensive Laser Training in Manhattan with the same curriculum, instructors, and equipment it uses at its Skippack, Pennsylvania med spa, and live models on all 3 days. Classes are capped at 6 to 8 students. Over 3 days you earn 24 CNE credits and treat live models in 5 laser modalities: laser hair removal, PhotoFacial (IPL) for melasma and hyperpigmentation, skin rejuvenation, acne and rosacea treatment, and fractional skin resurfacing. Laser Hair Removal Is 1 of the 5 Modalities, Not a Separate Course
ILM does not sell a laser-hair-removal-only class in New York. The certification you leave Manhattan with covers laser hair removal and 4 more modalities for the same 3 days, the same $3,500, and the same 24 CNE credits. That matters in a city where clients book a hair removal package and then ask about melasma, acne scars, or sun damage in the same visit.
The theory comes first, online and at your own pace: laser physics, how laser energy interacts with tissue, and safety and regulatory requirements. Most students finish it in 6 to 8 hours. The 3 days in Manhattan are then spent almost entirely on live models with clinical-grade equipment, with an instructor correcting your settings and technique as you work.
What You Learn in 3 Days
- Laser hair removal: patient selection, treatment planning, parameter settings for different skin types and hair colors, and the safety protocols.
- PhotoFacial (IPL): melasma, sun damage, age spots, and rosacea-related discoloration, with protocols built around skin tone and the client’s goals.
- Skin rejuvenation: non-ablative treatments that stimulate collagen, improve texture, and minimize pore size, and how wavelength and depth decide which laser you reach for.
- Acne and rosacea: telling inflammatory from non-inflammatory conditions, choosing parameters for each, and combining laser work with other therapies.
- Fractional and skin resurfacing: ablative and non-ablative fractional approaches, scar revision, deep wrinkles, and the post-treatment protocols that make resurfacing safe.
Students can serve as treatment models during class if they choose, so you also know what each treatment feels like from the table.

Where the Manhattan Class Meets
The Manhattan class meets in hotel conference space in Manhattan that ILM transforms into its laser classroom for the 3 days. ILM brings the laser equipment and the instructors with it, and you practice on live models all 3 days; the one thing Manhattan does not have is ILM’s own med spa.
Manhattan is the closest ILM classroom for the 5 boroughs, Long Island, Westchester and the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and western Connecticut. The complimentary shadow day and apprenticeship hours that come with graduating are held at the Skippack med spa in Pennsylvania, about 95 miles west, so plan those as a separate trip. ILM’s other laser classrooms are in Skippack, Pittsburgh, Fairfax, and Boston.
